Treadmills tend to fall into 2 categories based on user demand. A "regular duty" treadmill is one that is used 5 hours or less per day. A "heavy duty" treadmill is one that is built to withstand usage in excess of 5 hours per day, 7 days a week. Syracuse Fitness will recommend the treadmill best suited for you based on your projected usage, variety of equipment you offer, budget requirements, and user preferences.

CONSIDERATIONS
Because of treadmills' popularity, invest most of your time and budget into finding quality machines that meet your users' needs. Knowing specifics about the number of potential users, your exercisers' average weight and potential training level, and whether the treadmill will be utilized for rehabilitation purposes, is all important information in determining which product will best meet your needs.
Additional considerations include the treadmill's durability, safety, and maintenance requirements.
DURABILITY
Commercial treadmills are built for either light-institutional (3-5 hours of use per day) or full-institutional continuous use. Past dividing lines established that health clubs installed full-institutional treadmills and all other facilities used light-institutional treadmills. However, these lines are not so rigid now. The appropriate treadmill for your situation depends on your goals, expected usage, budget, and maintenance concerns.

SAFETY
Every treadmill must have a stop button or safety shut-off allowing the user to halt the belt in an emergency. Also look for safety features such as handrails on the front, side, or both. If the rails are not standard, ask if they are an available option.
MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
Maintenance is particularly important with treadmills. Because the belt and deck are designed to wear, these parts must remain lubricated. Due to the extra care these machines need, routine service is usually a good investment with any treadmill.

Landice L7 & L9 Treadmills
Landice is known for being the oldest treadmill manufacturer in the world. All Landice does is make treadmills. That is their only focus and has always been. Their treadmills are very reliable and aggresively priced. Landice is not a common name that you find in a health club but that all may change very soon. The company has never done a lot of marketing, they just believed in the product selling itself. Landice doesn't offer bikes, ellipticals, or strength machines. This maybe the reason that they have remained as the hidden jewel in treadmills. Many fitness center owners and operators are many times forced by sales representatives to purchase all of their equipment needs from one manufacturer rather than buying the best product for each category they are in search of. Landice offers Club Series treadmills (over 4 hours of use per day) and Light Commercial treadmills (under 4 hours of use each day). Once you decide how much the machine will be used each day, you then decide what size frame you
want. Landice offers two different frame sizes called the L7 and the L9. The L7 has a 58" long walking surface and the L9 has a 63" long walking surface. Landice has most recently come out with a medical treadmill that goes in reverse. Please call or email for more information and pricing on Landice Treadmills. Also ask about demoing a Landice treadmill at your facility for a free 2 week trial.

Bodyguard T340, T500, T540 & 312c Treadmills
Bodyguard is another company that we feel is a hidden jewel within the treadmill market. Like Landice, they put their money into the product rather than into the marketing of it. Bodyguard offers treadmills that have identical specs to those of other companies that sell them at twice the price. The Bodyguard T340 & T540 are the most impressive Light Commercial machines on the market. They both offer 22" wide walking belts with options of contact heart rate and full length handlebars. Top speed on the T540 is 15 mph. The electronics on all Bodyguard treadmills are again superior to the competition. Their keypad control buttons are known for being the most durable in the industry. The commercial 312-c model from Bodyguard packs a major punch as well. Aggressively priced with more bells and whistles than the competition. The 312-C will go in reverse up to 3 mph and also offers a decline elevation to -3 degrees. This is a company that produces products that just make sense. Please call or email for
more information and pricing on Bodyguard Treadmills. Also ask about demoing a Bodyguard treadmill at your facility for a free 2 week trial.
